Surendra Rajput is known for his on going fighting against government for the rights of people. He keeps fighting against government whether it is his own party is ruling or opposition party is ruling.

He was elected as Municipal Counsellor in 1975 from Potaliya Constituency and during this period of 5 years he successfully led the various movements for the rights of people of this area.

Late Mrs Indira Gandhi was arrested on the same day he became Municipal counselor in Ahmedabad. He started “Jail Bharo Andolan“ against the arrest of her. As well he very brave fully saved the Indiraji’s statue which, people were trying to burn down near Nehru bridge corner in Ahmedabad.

He Successfully led Kodiyar nagar Movement (against Municipal Corporation) for the cause of drainage and water supply affecting 2000 People.

He also successfully managed the movement against Gujarat Housing Board. In the areas like Bapunara, Krishnagar, Satadhar and Meganinagar number of houses built by Housing Board were damaged due to technical errors and Mill workers were suffering a lot due to these problems. Surendra Rajput started a movement against this problem and successfully managed to get rights for the laborers.

He also started a movement against corporation and government, who had issued notices to famous temple of Ahmedaabd, Jagganantah Temple and other poor people having small farms for the grass for the use of their cows. Some rich people had problem of water used in farms for grass and as per them the use of water in farms leads to production of mosquitoes and hence it should be avoided. Surendra Rajput faught against this under name of “Suez Farm Movement” and managed to get people their rights. There are many such incidents of his work in his 5 years tenure as a Municipal Cousellor. All these were more than enough for the party to give him a ticket for MLA in 1980 assembly election.
